NZ RET = 90% by 2025, Japan 1.63% by 2024...
New Zealand is making grand strides to slash carbon emissions within the next couple decades, releasing an energy strategy at the end of August that targets 90 percent of electricity generation to be from renewable sources by 2025.
It seems that with the abundance of geothermal activity in the region, the NZ government sees this as an opportunity to stride ahead.

“The potential we have in geothermal energy generation is important. Investment in geothermal provides us with a renewable form of baseload generation that shores up intermittant generation sources like wind” says Energy Minister David Parker (read more).
Considering Japan's location, in the heart of an active geothermal region, let's hope they decide to increase their 2024 target of only 1.63% renewable energy generation.
